In fact, it is merely on hiatus until further notice. We apologize for the error.
January 22, 2006: Jake in Progress Cancelled
Following the cancellation of its lead-in, Emily's Reasons Why Not, ABC has chosen
to cancel Jake in Progress. There is no word yet on whether ABC will air the
finished episodes.
January 16, 2006: New Website Launches
JaneEspenson.com has launched their new site, with updated content, a bright, bold new design, and more
importantly, a new blog written by Jane Espenson.
December 19, 2005: New Short Story in Stores Now
Flirting with Pride and Prejudice: Fresh Perspectives on the Original Chick-Lit Masterpiece,
edited by Jennifer Crusie, includes the short story "Georgiana" by Jane Espenson. The anthology is now
available in stores.
December 18, 2005: "The Two Jakes"
Jane has already written her first episode of Jake in Progress. "The Two Jakes," the
eighth episode of the second season, is estimated to air in late February/early March. Jake
stars John Stamos will air Monday nights at 9:30pm on ABC starting on January 9, 2006.
August 9, 2005: Jane Joins Jake in Progress
Jane Espenson has joined the writing/producing team of the ABC comedy Jake in Progress. The
second season of the sitcom, starring John Stamos, is expected to return to ABC's schedule midseason in 2006.
August 8, 2005: FOX cancels The Inside
FOX has decided not to air the remaining six episodes of The Inside, and the show will not be
continuing in the fall. It is uncertain if the 13 episodes will be released on DVD.

August 8, 2005: Tru Season 2 on DVD
The final six episodes of Tru Calling, including Jane's episode "In the Dark", are now available on DVD
exclusively at Best Buy.
May 17, 2005: The Inside Premieres in June
Executive Producer Tim Minear has confirmed FOX Television will be airing the first episode of his new show The Inside
on Wednesday, June 8 at 9pm Eastern/Pacific. The Inside stars Rachel Nichols and Peter Coyote, and is co-executive produced
by Jane Espenson.
April 1, 2005: Finding Serenity
Finding Serenity : Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly
is finally in bookstores! Edited by Jane Espenson and Glenn Yeffeth, this anthology of essays
about the much-missed Fox show Firefly
covers a wide range of topics, from what was wrong with the pilot to what was right
with the Reavers, from the use of Chinese to how correspondence between Joss
and network executives might have gone, from a philosopher's perspective on
"Objects in Space" to a sex therapist's analysis of Inara. With contributions by

itself.
March 23, 2005: The Return of Tru Calling
According to SciFi
Wire and Zap2It, Fox will be airing the previously unaired six episodes of season two of
Tru Calling, cancelled before the start of the 2004-2005 television season. It will be replacing
the newly cancelled Point Pleasant starting on Thursday, March 31, at 9pm on Fox stations.
March 20, 2005: Opinion piece appears in LA Times
Jane's opinion piece, "How to Succeed at Vampire Slaying and Keep Your Soul", appeared in today's
Los Angeles Times.
The article discusses the role of women in television, both behind the scenes and on the screen.
March 20, 2005: The Inside premiere pushed back
Word on the street is that The Inside, the new crime drama being developed by Tim Minear
for 20th Century Fox Television, is now being pushed back for a Fall premiere.
This move from mid-season replacement to the full PR glory of a Fall season show demonstrates strong
support from the Fox network, disproving the naysayers who believed Fox would stay true to form and doom this new
show to the same fate as the wonderful yet short-lived Wonderfalls (also by Tim Minear).

February 9, 2005: What does Eric Wight have to say about Jane?
When asked in an interview with USAToday.com
about the fate of the Buffy animated series, animator Eric Wight replied, "It's
frustrating. It's probably the biggest heartbreak that I've had, because it's such an amazing show.
The scripts that were written for the cartoon were written by Steve DeKnight and Joss (Whedon, creator
of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Jane Espenson wrote one of the funniest scripts I've ever read
in my life. And they're not getting made." Eric Wight has also done work for The O.C. and
Six Feet Under.
January 22, 2005: Finding Serenity

will be released by Benbella Books on April 1, 2005. Edited by Jane Espenson and Glenn Yeffeth and
including contributions by Jewel Staite, Joy Davidson and Mercedes Lackey, this collection of essays
digs into the depths of the sadly short-lived television series Firefly.
January 21, 2005: More on The Inside
There's still no announcement yet on when The Inside will be starting, but Jane has confirmed
that she's currently writing the second episode, tentatively titled "Hide and Seek."
The new crime drama being developed by Tim Minear for 20th Century Fox Television stars Rachel Nichols,
